From 16th of January until the 6th of March Soft Touch Arts alongside New Walk Museum will be exhibiting young people’s artwork for free ,as part of a touring exhibition. I have got involved as a young curator and invigilator of the exhibition, so have chosen which artwork goes where, put up the artwork and watched over the exhibition whilst many have come to view the work of young people. The exhibition has been in Margate and will venture on to the Isle of White but it has been a good experience to have been part of the process and […] Read more »

Cank Street

Among the Yellow by Abby Smith

Leicester’s own Cank Street Gallery today opened its first Open Art Exhibition; containing work from myself, Abby Smith (another blogger here), and Kieran Walsh (who works with us at Soft Touch). The exhibit is expecting to take in visitors from around the world, because of the recent opening of the nearby Richard III Visitor Centre. On top of that, there is a grand prize of £500 to go to an overall winner; so this is a great opportunity for budding artists like myself and Abby. The exhibition closes on the 25th of October 2014, just under 3 weeks away. Cank Street Gallery can be found […] Read more »

Luv Leicester: Exhibition Outcomes

From the 5th to the 15th of August 2014, the Luv Leicester exhibition opened in the Highcross; and the general public came to look at our young people’s work. A few days before the launch, we had time to set up; clean up the place; and make it look like a presentable, worthwhile exhibit. Within the exhibit, my main role was along-side Lewis; taking photos of the public for our portrait wall, telling us why they love Leicester. We also ended up taking count of who came into the exhibit and other small chores, such as buying lunch. On most days we […] Read more »

Lego Pimpstress Abe

From the 5th of August ’til the 15th, a mixed exhibition of photography and stencil work will be on display in Leicester’s Highcross shopping centre. The photography portion of this exhibit, Luv Leicester, is based around what residents think is great about the city. This is a project that has been led by myself and Abby Smith; who participated in the running of last year’s Unrestricted exhibition. It consists of photography by a mix-bag of young people; both from Soft Touch’s STart group, and from Park Lodge hostel. As well as the young people’s work, there is going to be a photo booth […] Read more »

Tanjima Khatun perspective

By Siham

we are doing a project showing the differences from the 1950’s and now. we are creating something for the which shows the dreams and expectations from the two time periods, it also shows how the genders differ and how people wanted different things. we want the project to be interactive and something which people can see from all angles. it would be vibrant and attractive so it appeals to all age types. we are making a dodecahedron which has collages on it which show the comparisons. the top half shows the dreams and the bottom half shows the expectations.   […] Read more »

1950’s Project

1950s vs 2010s Exhibition

Currently at Soft Touch Arts, a project where we are comparing the 1950’s to now is taking place every Wednesday. It involves a small group of us and since last September we had been mainly planning but now we are finally starting to make our ideas for each groups theme for the exhibition we hope to hold at the new Soft Touch Arts building when it opens later this year. The project is showing the comparison of young people back in the ’50’s to the young people now. It has meant a lot of planning and research to come up […] Read more »

'Unrestricted' Photo/Art Exhibition

Unrestricted was based around a shop unit in Leicester’s impressive shopping mall ‘The Highcross’. The participants had the shop unit for six days and had to plan what they were going to do with it… Abby’s Story This project  was a great opportunity that set new challenges and enjoyment in something I enjoy doing. Me and three other young people were given this project in which we had to work with Soft Touch Arts. We also had some help from Michael Lawrence from Spearing Waite to plan, keep diaries, set up dates, form lists of what we would need, come […] Read more »
